The goal of the game of chess is to put your opponent in checkmate. This means that the king is under attack and has no squares it can move to without moving into check. We will now look at some examples of what checkmate looks like.

Empty Chess Board

This can be accomplished in many ways and is usually easier said than done. Because of this, there are a lot of intermediate goals within chess to get checkmate. These goals are intented to give you an advantage so that checkmate is easier. The first thing you should try to do in a chess match is control the center of the board through your opening. We will go over this later. For now I will explain what the center squares you need to control are and some example the control.
