Student Scholarship

Involving students directly in a scholarly project is a great way for them to participate in the discovery learning process of mathematical investigation, and to develop skills not normally obtained in their coursework.  This kind of experience enriches and deepens their understanding of mathematics, how it is developed, and the role it can play in the world around us.   Several students of mine have worked on projects involving fundamentals of Fourier analysis, wavelet analysis, and modeling.  These projects have also provided the students with an opportunity to give poster presentations at local undergraduate student scholar symposiums - a great way to develop presentation skills and learn how to communicate the results of their work to others.  My students have benefited from these experiences and their success helps demonstrate to other students that student scholarship is not only possibly but fun and rewarding!
