Text:  A First Course in Mathematical Modeling, 2nd Ed., by Giordano and Weir.  We will cover selected topics from Chapters 2 - 10, focusing on several important methods of model construction, model analysis and model research.  Mathematical modeling is a process involving identification and development of mathematical descriptions and solutions to questions arising from real-world problems.

Course Objectives:     In this course you will learn how mathematics can be used to describe phenomena in the world around us.  You will develop awareness of modeling perspectives and facility with specific modeling techniques, as well as developing calculator and computer skills (both computation and presentation), problem solving skills, group participation skills, and communication skills.

Prerequisites:  Calculus 2, Stat 200, and one mathematics class at or above the level of Math 240, or consent of instructor.
