Welcome to the William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition! There will be two, three-hour sessions of six problems each.
Session A · 8:30–11:30 AM
Session B · 1:30–4:30 PM
Turn off and stow away your cell phone and any other devices capable of transmitting or receiving information (smartwatches, earbuds, etc). If you need to temporarily slip out of the competition room, you are certainly free to do so — just leave all such devices and all competition materials in the room, and talk to no one outside the room. No collaboration or outside aid on the competition is permitted.
Use spare sheets of the provided solution paper as scratch paper.
Write in pencil, or blue or black ink.
Don’t write solutions to two different problems on the same sheet of paper.
Only write solutions on the front side of the provided paper.
All work to justify a solution
and all necessary steps of a proof should be presented.
When finished writing solutions for a session, label and organize all solution pages as indicated and submit them to the proctor. Only submit cover sheets corresponding to problems to which you are submitting a solution. Upon submitting solutions you may leave before the session time has ended; leave all other competition materials in the room. Competition results should be announced in February of next year.
