Neurotransmission

Neurotransmission is the process by which individual neurons communicate with each other. When a neuron sends a message to another neuron, it is said to "fire". When a neuron "fires," a neural impulse or action potential travels down the length of the axon to the axon terminals. You may view this process by clicking on the "Play" button in the scene below. To view the animation again, you must first click on the "Rewind" button.
