- cd /winsock
- using binary mode, get twsk30c.exe
From Netscape:

Depending on your system, you may need the Win32s extensions ver 1.2 or
above.
If you downloaded these files into your Unix account, the easiest way to get
them to your home computer is to use the sz (send zmodem) command.
Trumpet Winsock
Trumpet Winsock is the program you use with Windows 3.x to connect with
Mesa and run the PPP protocol. All of your Internet software (i.e. Netscape,
Eudora, WS_FTP, etc.) requires that Trumpet Winsock has an active PPP
connection. Trumpet Winsock is not free!!! It is a shareware program.
For more information about Trumpet Winsock, visit
http://www.trumpet.com.au
Configuring Trumpet Winsock to connect to Mesa:
- After copying Trumpet Winsock to your home computer, run
twsk30c.exe, and then run setup. When asked what directory you wish to
install Trumpet in, use your Windows directory.
- The computer will ask you for a name, password, and phone number.
The only thing really necessary at this point is the phone number; give it
241-2209 (or 255-0740 for the older PPP server).
- A window will come up asking for numerous confusing computer-type
settings; give it these:
- IP address for dynamic PPP/SLIP is 0.0.0.0
- Name server is 192.70.203.2
- Domain Suffix is mesa.colorado.edu
- MTU is 1006 / TCP RWIN is 2048 / TCP MSS is 966 / TCP RTO MAX is
60
- Check the PPP radio button
- Click on dialer settings and put in the following information:
- Baud Rate can be 38400 for a 14.4 modem or 57600 for a 28.8 modem.
If you are having connection problems, try lowering your baud rate
until it works (e.g. 19200 or 9600)
- Check Hardware Handshake and VJ Header Compression
- Online Status Detection should have DCD [RLSD] checked
- Click "Login/Logout on Load/Unload"
- Make sure the com port setting matches your modem.
- Click on "Ok" to exit out of this dialog box
- Set demand load timeout to 60 (Default is 5)
- Click OK. Login profile shows up. Fill in only the phone number
- Click OK. The Winsock installer then exits. Re run Winsock.
- When Trumpet comes up with a full screen, go under File and click
on PPP options. Click on "Use PAP (Password Authentication Protocol"
and input your name and password. (DO NOT USE CHAP!!!!, CHAP DOES
NOT WORK!!!!)
- Next, exit out of both Trumpet and Windows, and switch to your Windows
directory. Using a text editor such as edit, edit the file named login.cmd.
In this file, look for a line saying "Connected, now logging in as....".
Delete everything AFTER (repeat AFTER) that line. Trumpet should now be set
up.
Installing Netscape
After getting the n16e30p.exe file on your system, run it, and then run
setup. Follow the on screen directions; when asked if you would like to
connect to Netscape's site to complete installation, say no.
