Big Sur

CURRENT STREAMFLOW COLORADO RIVER AT CAMEO

This is Big Sur. It runs only at high water. General rule of thumb is that 20,000 cfs is needed.   Guys with surf boards have been seen surfing this delightful wave. When the surf is up, people sit on the walkway in lawn chairs and watch the surfers. It's a day at the beach!

Don't plan on paddling from Big Sur to Palisade because there are two big dams and the river is next to I-70 the whole way.  At the second dam there are plans to build a water park for kayaking.

To get to Big Sur you must be eastbound on I-70.  After passing the exit for the Grand Mesa and Powderhorn watch for exit signs for "Parking Area".  park in the first available location on the rightide and then walk downstream and under the I-70 bridge then another 100 yards.   The waves form about where the cement abutment can be seen on the opposite side of the river.

There is no westbound exit on or to I-70.  You must drive east about eight miles to Debeque to access westbound I-70
