Mesa State, I was going through websites that mention the Green River, and fell upon home.mesastate.edu/~jerry/guide/green_river_corridor.htm They have the incorrect information about rafting in Dinosaur National Monument. One button directs you to information about floating between Flaming Gorge and Lodore saying you can take out at Lodore. Lodore is within NPS boundaries and is not a take-out site for any launches. To be in our waters either above the put-ins or below, you need a permit obtained by the permit office. We do not issue permits for taking out a Lodore.  The same issue is from Split Mountain to Sandwash. That section is doable, but you need a day use permit or a play permit to launch from Split Mountain.  If these corrections can be made on the website, I would greatly appreciate it.

Subject: Green River above LaDore questions

06/16/2005 01:30 PM CST

Hi Judy,

I'm the author of the web page that needs some correction. The web page is my personal web page which starts at www.mesastate.edu/~jerry/guide I am  responsible for its content and want the information to be as accurate as possible. Here's where I need help:

Question 1: Where do you recommend trips take out before entering the forbidden section?

Question 2: Should I inform boaters that the section of the river upstream of LaDore is closed and any use of it is forbidden? Is there any logical reason for this closed section of river that I can give to my readers?

Jerry Nolan

They can take out in Brown's Park, which I am not familiar with.  There has always been a requirement for a permit within park boundaries and there are no day use permits issued for Browns' Park to Lodore. As for not being allowed to take-out at Lodore, it has never been designated as a take-out site in any of the NPS River Management Plans dating back to the 1970's. There is not enough room for parking for both put-in and take-out vehicles and the boat ramp is not big enough for both operations. The only exception to the rule, is if someone has a permit to continue on down Lodore, they can enter the park boundaries the day of their permit and continue down the river.  You can just alter the Flaming Gorge to Lodore, saying it needs a permit to enter Dinosaure National Monument waters and then they can always call me if explanations are needed.
