It was an unusual WinterStart Race. There was lots of snow, over 3 feet, it was very cold for early season, and we had snowcat grooming. Our snowcat grooming! And the turnout to enjoy it was great. A nice track was particularly important on such a slow snow day. Thanks Kenton and John for the excellent grooming and the Lambert Foundation for the terrific machine to do it with.

It was an Aschwanden sweep as Dave and Christie were the top male and female racers in both the Classic and the Freestyle. They looked like they were in mid-season form while the rest of us seemed to be still getting the closet dust off our skiis. Actually, lots of people skied very well. Joseph Szekely, a new face on Grand Mesa, was second in both races and was able to push Dave a little bit. We had lots of young racers who skied hard on a tough day. The "experienced" racers were impressive also. It was great to see Polly Pulver out on the race course again at 72 and Bill Ela keeps chugging along at 83. Keep it up, all of you, young and old!
