The 2007 Heart Throb show-and-go marathon was a celebration of diversity. There were lots of people skiing lots of techniques at a wide selection of speeds for a range of distances on a variety of courses. Most started out together and headed the same direction and eventually made it back. All had a goal of skiing a long ways and having fun and that was accomplished. There was a set course but a number of people didn't find it so I guess I'll need to simplify it next year.
Dave Poling said he found the course just fine but found an added feature out on the far side of the second lap: the "Wall". He said he had never hit the "wall" before but recognized it without a doubt. He said getting back to Skyway from County Line was quite an ordeal and he seemed pretty happy when it was over. He got his 50 in, though. Joe Ramey labeled that portion a "death march" but he had telemarked an amazing 20 non-stop runs at Powderhorn the day before raising money for the American Cancer Society. He mentioned that his thighs were a little locked up. His muscles may be depleted but his karma has lots of extra credits.
Bringing up the rear, I didn't see many people to get feedback but I know it was a nice day for skiing even though there was a stiff breeze at times that almost stopped me in my tracks. At least it was warm. I didn't get time and distance information for a lot of people but that was ok in the casual spirit of things. The important thing was to push the distance envelope and have some fellow skiers around for encouragement. A lot of K's got covered and there were some big leaps in the Virtual Skiing log on our web site. Congratulations everyone!
