Help for Beginners

Lesson Four: "Downhills"  (mpeg video)

Help Point #4-1:  Use the snowplow or wedge to control your speed while going downhill.  Notice how the knees are pulled together in order to dig the edges of the skis into the snow for better stopping power.  Click on picture for short video.

Help Point #4-5:  When going downhill keep your legs bent.  If slow snow, deep snow, or an uphill suddenly slows you down, your bent legs could save you from any embarrassing face plant.  If also makes it easier to sitdown in an emergency.  Think sitzamark.  Click on picture for short video.
