This is the last step. You've got a draft of your essay that has all the right ideas in all the right places. Now, you need to make sure that you've said what you need to say in the most elegant, lucid manner possible. Have you run a spell check on your essay? Have you read it again for homonym errors? Have you read each sentence to make sure the meaning is clear? Have you looked for passive voice constructions? Are you using the most exciting verbs you can use? (Check especially for places you use forms of ``to be.") How about commas? Are they where they're supposed to be? Are you paragraphing in appropriate places? How do the transitions work between paragraphs and between different sections of the essay?
In exercise 15, you'll find a variety of sites to help you think about editing and proof reading. Many of you know, already, from your own experience, from my comments, from your peer's comments, what sorts of grammatical and stylistic issues you need to be aware of. Use the information provided by the sites available to you to tighten up, clarify, and invigorate your writing.
